The manorial residence of Rubercy (Calvados)
Archaeological digs carried out between 1969 and 1977 have shown two periods of use. The first establishment whose occupation can be dated to the third quarter of the 12th century manifested itself in the form of a rectangular wall, with a raised interior floor, surrounded by water, which was substituted by a new castle built in stone during the 1170s. The archaeological artefacts on re-examination testify to a standard of living, which although simple and rudimentary, was none the less aristocratic.
