Evrecy (Calvados), the monastery.
The manuscript sources relating to Evrecy evoke the creation of a monastery of importance during the 7th century. The archives of the following centuries do not allow the historical sequence to be followed accurately, but it may be supposed that it suffered during the Viking invasions. A significant hiatus exists between this probable destruction in the 9th century and the building of the church in the 12th century. This church disappeared in the bombardments of the summer of 1944, and it is in its ruins that the majority of the lapidary fragments were discovered and re-used in the walls.
