Deux-Jumeaux (Calvados), monastery

A large monastery, which did not survive the Norman invasions, was founded in the 7th century in the territory of the commune of Deux-Jumeaux. Archaeological excavations carried out in the early 60s by Lucien Musset led to the discovery of modest foundations that belonged to this abbey. The pre-Romanesque lapidary fragments presented here had been re-used in the walls or foundations of the church built in the 11th century on the ruins of the monastery.
