Saint-Sylvain (Calvados),
chapel of Saint-Martin-des-BoisThe commune of Saint-Sylvain combines the two former parishes of Saint-Sylvain and Saint-Martin-des-Bois. The church of the latter, which was probably rebuilt in the 17th century, replaced a building of the Romanesque period from which the lapidary fragment presented here originates. During the 19th century, Arcisse de Caumont, in his work, La Statistique Monumentale du Calvados, [The Monumental record of the Calvados département] describes the building as being in ruins and it has now completely disappeared. Only its cemetery remains which is used as the communal cemetery.
