Caen (Calvados), Abbey church of the Holy Trinity (Abbaye-aux-Dames)

Capital

First third of the 12th century

This column capital originates from the Trinité church, in the Abbaye-aux-Dames, in Caen (Calvados). It was carved in limestone during the first third of the 12th century.
The corbel is made up of almond motifs separated by thin lines. On three faces, the semicircular sections are decorated with small palms, underlined by a beaded braid. The abacus is decorated with a row of saw teeth. The fourth face seems not to be complete, and the semicircular sections only underlined by a leaf pattern and the abacus itself has no decoration.
