Quinéville (canton of Montebourg, Manche) Church of Notre-Dame

    Built on a high point on the east coast of the Cotentin peninsula, the church of Quinéville has been reconstructed in the neo-gothic style.
Only the tower, built during the 12th century, has been retained from the old church to form part of the new structure which overshadows it, along with the choir which is in the Romanesque style, but is probably a 19th century reconstruction.
The Romanesque tower is of a type which is characteristic of the region. It is low and has a square plan; the base has no openings, the second stage has twin openings on each face and a pitched roof. A string course with billets marks the division between the two floors, and the twin openings, each separated by a small column topped by a capital, are also decorated with billets. The same arrangement is found in the tower at Brucheville.
