Colombiers-sur-Seulles (Canton of Creully, Calvados) Church of Saint-Vigor

   This church was dedicated to saint Vigor, an evangelistic bishop of Bessin (6^th century), and the construction of the church of Colombiers-sur-Seulles dates to the end of the 11^th century – early 12^th.
It was significantly restored at the end of the 19^th century, and the original edifice constituted a single nave, probably not vaulted, followed by a lower choir.
The tower, dating from the middle of the 12^th century, stands on the north wall close to the choir and is one of the finest examples of the late period of Romanesque architecture in the Calvados region. This is a rectangular tower with four floors which progressively recede and whose openings and mouldings increase gradually with the elevation. The first two floors are bare of windows and decoration, the third ornamented with blind arches, the fourth open on each side of the two openings.
