The
market tower
A market tower still
survives in Venafro, located over the eastern gateway of the town walls. It has
undergone numerous adaptations over the centuries, and today has the appearance
of a small palace with crenellations. Nothing remains of the moat (mentioned in
the sources) that once defended it, but it still preserves crossbow slits at the
level that is now the basement.
