The Archangel Michael is a recurrent figure in Molisian churches. Not far from
Isernia there rises the sanctuary of Sant’Angelo in Grotte, dedicated to the
Archangel Michael. This is not surprising if we remember the passage of
pilgrims travelling to Rome or to Mount Sant’Angelo in Gargano from Normandy,
where Mont Saint Michel is located, and from all parts of Christian Europe.
