William of Hauteville, duke of Apulia

He succeeded his father, Roger Borsa, in 1111. He, too, had a weak character, and was often unable to cope with the innate anarchy of the southern barons; like his father, he was obliged to ask Roger I of Sicily for help. When he died heirless in 1127, Roger II of Sicily laid claim to the succession.
