Adela, daughter of William the Conqueror, Countess of Blois (c. 1062-1137)

The daughter of William the Conqueror and Matilda of Flanders who, in 1081, married Count Stephen-Henry of Blois (1102). She subsequently took an active part in the government of the County and played a part in her husband's decision to set off on crusade. She was the mother of Thibaut IV, Count of Blois, serving as his regent before enjoying considerable influence by his side: she was, in particular, responsible for the alliance of the County of Blois with the Capetian Louis VI. She was the mother of Stephen of Blois, grandson of William the Conqueror, who came to the English throne in 1135.
