Rouen (Seine-Maritime) Place du Vieux-Marché  Chessboard piece (?) 12th  century

This object is sculpted with a decorative motif consisting of four scrolls back to back and linked in pairs. These are surmounted by the croup of a quadruped whose head has unfortunately been lost. This is probably a gaming piece.
