Saint-Contest (Calvados)
The parish church

Capital

Second third of the 12th century

This half-column capital originates from the Trinité church (Abbaye-aux-Dames, Caen). It was carved in limestone at the end of the second third of the 12th century.
The plant decoration shows a flowing treatment of the stems and small palms. The carving technique gives such scope to the undulations of the design that the less strict organisation of the plant elements denotes the Romanesque style of the end of the 12th century.
