Ouistreham (Calvados)
Church of St Samson

Capital

Second third of the 12th century

This half column capital originates from the church of Saint-Samson (Ouistreham, Calvados). It was carved in limestone during the second third of the 12th century.
This capital probably had two corner volutes originally, which were well developed and embedded under the abacus. It is decorated with human masks incorporated into a network of beaded cords.
