Caen (Calvados),
church of Holy Peace (Sainte-Paix)

Bas-relief

11th century

This sculpted plaque originates from the church of Sainte-Paix in Caen (Calvados). It was carved in limestone during the 11th century.
The graphical representation and modelling are inexpert, but this anthropomorphic representation is evidence of the figurative care lavished upon the morphological details (eyes, ears and nose) which are characteristic of the 11th century.
