Caen (Calvados)
Church of St Pierre

Capital

First third of the 12th century

This half-column capital originates from the triforium of the church of Saint-Pierre (Caen, Calvados). It was carved in limestone during the first third of the 12th century.
Two animals, in a recumbent position, have each other by the throat. The remaining fragment of abacus is incrusted with a set of beads.
This piece is linked to certain capitals in the church of the Trinité and would be contemporary with the upper part of the church (c. 1125-1130).
