Caen (Calvados) Hôtel-Dieu Capital End of the 12th century

This column capital originates from the Hôtel-Dieu [hospital] (Caen, Calvados). It was carved in limestone at the end of the 12^th century.
Eight flat leaves in total cover the corbel. The four incisions on the upper face correspond to a numbering system determined by the supplier, still used today, and given the name of "calepin" [~'notebook'].
