In folio 59, the Monologium of Saint Anselm begins with a superb historiated initial. The saint is seated on a throne in the form of an X, between two monks, one of whom is presenting him a scroll and the other a book. He is wearing the pallium, reserved for popes and bishops. This detail enables the execution of the letter to be dated at after 1093, when the abbot of Bec, the author, was appointed to the seat of bishop in Canterbury. The refined features of the work mean that it can be attributed with some certainty to Hugo Pictor.
