York Minster
Virgin and Child
c.1155
Magnesian limestone. It is damaged, with the Virgin's head and upper part of the Child's body broken off. The work is Romanesque in detail, but there are also influences from the Byzantine world, for example in the way the Child is shown supported by his Mother's right hand rather than sitting on her knee.
Dimensions: H.840, W.382mm
