Frieze

Second third of the 12th century

This frieze originates from the church of Saint-Contest (Calvados). It was carved in limestone at the end of the second third of the 12th century.
The decoration reproduces an architectonic element which was much appreciated by the Norman school, i.e. that of inter-linked arcatures, which were rather fine and delicate in the regularity of their sequence.
