Ouistreham (Calvados)
Church of St Samson

Capital

Second third of the 12th century

This half column capital originates from the church of Saint-Samson (Ouistreham, Calvados). It was carved in limestone during the second third of the 12th century.
The corbel is decorated with two large symmetrical geometrical motifs. A beaded stem in a circle culminates in a corner volute. A beaded horizontal ring attaches the two circles to the centre of the corbel. This is a simple decoration, worked in fairly thick relief.
