Frieze

Second third of the 12th century 

This fragment of a half column tambour in limestone bears two rows of hollow shells. In the background of each is an ornament in the shape of a button. A beaded braid pattern separates the two rows of shells.
This type of decoration has links with the friezes in the churches of Saint-Pierre in Caen (Calvados) and Saint-Gabriel-Brécy (Calvados).
