Caen (Calvados), Abbey church of St stephen Modillion Last third of the 11th century

This modillion originates from the church of Saint-Etienne, in the Abbaye-aux-Hommes, in Caen (Calvados). It was carved in limestone during the last third of the 11^th century.
It shows a wrinkled monster's head, with its mouth wide open. This theme is often found on Romanesque modillions, especially on the outside of the main apse of the Abbaye-aux-Dames in Caen.
