York, 16-22 Coppergate
Copper alloy tweezers

1. (top) 12th/13th century
At the head a small oval loop of rectangular section; the sides gradually widen from the loop to squared tips. The upper end is decorated with a deeply cut wave design. Below the slide, the tips are flattened and decorated with incised zig-zag design.

2. (bottom) early 12th century
Formed from strip of rectangular section, looped at upper end, a clip at lower end, below which tips are splayed out. It is decorated on both faces with rouletted lines and along both edges with three pairs of notches.
