Bernières-sur-Mer (Canton of Douvres-la-Délivrande, Calvados) Church of Notre-Dame

   The Church of Notre-Dame in Bernières-sur-Mer, through its large-scale dimensions expresses the importance given to this dependency of the Bayeux chapter. An imposing east tower dating from the 13^th century precedes a Romanesque nave flanked by two aisles. The choir which is from a later period, is from the 14^th century. The nave which is the only Romanesque feature, dates from the 13^th century, but two phases of construction can be seen both on the interior and on the exterior. The east part of the nave is the oldest. It presents arcades between the aisles and the nave decorated with crenelated frets. The arches in the west of the nave are simply moulded.
